House cleaning might never be a task that you look forward to. It takes time, it takes effort, your hands get dirty, and you realize just how dirty underneath the couch really is! Even though cleaning homes is our job, we know that it can be a fun task at times. The trick is to understand how to make it fun. And no, it will probably never be as much fun as going shopping, watching a movie, or going for a hike, but when it needs to be done, you might as well try to make it as fun as possible. When you’re getting some cleaning done in between visits from your cleaning service, give a few of these tips a try.
Listen to Music
You may already do this, but to make it a little more interesting, listen to a type that you don’t normally listen to. If you love listening to instrumental music at work, put something on that you sing along to instead. Haven’t listened to punk music since your green haired days? Give it another try! Having music on in the background will keep you moving to the beat and singing along to the lyrics.
Get in a Workout
If you’re the type who doesn’t like working out either, we’re sorry. For those who do like working out, house cleaning is the perfect opportunity to get in some extra steps. When you’re constantly walking back and forth in the house, carrying bins of laundry up and down the stairs, or scrubbing the shower, you’re working your muscles and getting your heart rate up. To make it an additional challenge, strap on a small weight around your waist to increase the load.
Make it a Game
This is a great way to get the whole family involved, revive your competitive side, and the best part, of course, is that someone wins that end! Assign each cleaning task a point — doing the dishes could be three points, vacuuming the living room could be two, doing a load of laundry could be four, etc. When someone in the household completes a task, keep a tally of the numbers and whoever has the most points at the end of the week wins! And make the prize something special that everyone will really want to get the most points.
Reward Yourself
When you get through an hour or two of cleaning the house, that’s a big deal! Indulge in that cookie that’s been staring at you all day, sit down and watch your favorite movie, or even give yourself an hour to take a nap! The reward can be whatever you think is right for achieving a clean house. But again, make it something you’ll really look forward to!
